Testing Italeri Austrian Infantry 1798-1805

Here are a few test figures painted up. I am posting these to see if they are accurate to what an Austrian infantryman would look like at the Battle of Austerlitz. If anyone notices any innacuracies, please point them out, I won't be offended, actually I would feel quite the opposite, since I am posting these to learn, since I am new to Napoleonics.

This is my latest version, and my favorite looking. I painted them like I do with my WW2 figures, with a wash and repainting details above it.

This is my black based, clean white version, which doesn't look realistic in my opinion. I painted them the way I painted my Fantasy Medievals and other Napoleonics.

Same her, but with the cream instead of white. He used to have red sleeves before, but I changed them since he reminded me too much of my late Romans.

This is the wash with white paint finish instead of cream.

Anyways, please leave a comment on which is the more accurate. And if you have a tip on how to fix the first ones, please leave it, since I want a nice accurate diorama.

Thanks for visiting
have a good one

  1. They look excellent, I really like the off-white you've used, works well. As a rule of thumb it's best to avoid pure white when painting miniatures - unless you're painting a snow man :-)

  3. These are too early for Austerlitz, with regards to pillbox hat and wigs. Italeri's other set is perfect for the period. Though, the officers from this set work with some clean-up or heads switched for the one pictured above.
